A palace that is still a home

Sawai Jai Singh II began the City Palace soon after he founded Jaipur in 1727, and the royal family still lives in part of it. The courtyards and galleries around the residence are a museum, cared for by the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust.

Two tickets, two visits

The museum ticket opens the courtyards and galleries, and that is what most visitors need. The Chandra Mahal Royal Tour is a separate guided visit into rooms of the residence itself, with refreshments, sold only at the palace counter.

Before you go

The Mubarak Mahal textile gallery has been closed for restoration since March 2026, and the evening Museum at Night is paused for now. Ask us for the latest before you set out.

What to see

  • Illustration: Peacock Gate in the courtyard of City Palace, Jaipur

    Pritam Niwas Chowk

A small courtyard with four painted gates, one for each season. The Peacock Gate is autumn, the Lotus Gate summer, the Green Gate spring and the Rose Gate winter.
  • Illustration: The seven storeys of Chandra Mahal at City Palace, with the royal flag

    Chandra Mahal

Seven storeys of the royal residence rising above the courtyards. Its private rooms open only on the Royal Tour.
  • Illustration: One of the two giant silver Gangajali urns at City Palace

Sarvato Bhadra and the silver urns

The open hall of private audience holds two silver Gangajalis made in 1902 to carry Ganga water to London for Edward VII's coronation. Guinness World Records lists them as the largest pieces of silverware.
  • Illustration: Carved balconies of Mubarak Mahal at City Palace

    Mubarak Mahal

The 'auspicious palace', built as a reception hall at the end of the 19th century. Its textile gallery is closed for restoration, but the carved building is worth seeing from the courtyard.
  1. Sabha Niwas

The hall of public audience, with painted ceilings and the royal court laid out as a gallery.
