A palace afloat
Maharaja Madho Singh I made Jal Mahal his hunting lodge in the lake. It has five floors, and when the lake is full, four of them are under water. What you see is the top storey, sitting on its own reflection.
Where to see it
The palace isn't open to visitors. The promenade along Man Sagar Lake gives you the classic view, and it's on the road to Amber, so stop on the way out or on the way back. Mornings are quiet. Evenings bring snack stalls and families out for a stroll.
