Best time to visit Jaipur
Season by season: Jaipur's weather, its festivals and the best time to visit, from a family who lives here.
Some pictures are illustrations. The real places may look a little different.
The short version
October to March: the best time to visit
Days are warm and bright, evenings are cool, and this is when most travellers come. In December and January the nights turn properly cold, so pack a warm layer. Book early for winter weekends.
April to June: the hot months
Hot, and in May and June often hotter than 40°C. The city is quieter. See the monuments early in the morning, rest through the afternoon and save the bazaars for the evening.
July to September: the monsoon
The rains turn the Aravalli hills green and the crowds thin out. Showers come and go, so keep plans loose. Ranthambore's core safari zones close for the season, and the balloons start flying again in September.
Festivals worth planning around
Makar Sankranti fills the sky with kites on 14 January, and the Jaipur Literature Festival runs from 14 to 18 January 2027 at Hotel Clarks Amer. Holi and Gangaur colour the old city in March or April. Teej brings a procession out of City Palace's Tripolia Gate in July or August, and Diwali lights up the bazaars in October or November.
Most festival dates follow the lunar calendar and move each year. Tell us when you're thinking of coming and we'll tell you what's on.
Tips from the family
- Book ahead for winter weekends and festivals
- Carry a warm layer from December to February
- In summer, plan monuments for the morning and bazaars for the evening
