Two towns, two styles

Sanganer, just south of the airport, is known for fine floral and nature motifs printed on white and off-white cotton. Bagru, further out on the Ajmer road, works in earthier colours and dabu, where a mud paste resists the dye. Both have printed by hand for generations.

Paper, too

Sanganer's Kagzi families also make handmade paper from cotton rag, and you can buy it in shops across the town.

See it properly

The Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing in Amer explains the craft well, with block carvers and printers at work. If you'd like to print something yourself, ask us about a hands-on session. We're setting one up with a local printer and will tell you what's possible for your dates.

    Sanganeri prints
